The Family Engagement Specialist supports parent and family programming at East Austin College Prep School. In collaboration with Universidad de Padres/Parent University, this role develops a coordinated parent network that empowers parents through personal growth and development.
Essential Functions
Program Administration
- Work in partnership with East Austin College Prep.
- Implement after school curricula and programs to support student academic success and facilitate workshops and events that promote parent engagement, including but not limited to District parent engagement curricula Padres Comprometidos
- Distribute supportive information to inform school staff, parents, students and community members of community resources by means of, but not limited to, neighborhood canvassing, online posting, and presentations.
- Align activities and events to 21st Century Grant and EAPrep District priorities, working closely with the District Parent Coordinator to ensure quality programming
- Relationship Management
- Recruit students and families into 21st CCLC programming and provide Family Support Service workshops on Saturdays and/or evenings and summers related to areas of child development, college readiness, community resources and learning at home.
- Work closely with at-risk students and families to ensure they receive continued support for their educational goals
- Promote parent and community volunteers for the program.
- Collaborate with the administrative staff to communicate priorities and goals of the program as they align to the school while engaging and developing parent and community leadership in the decision-making process
- Additional Program Management
- Ensure services provided have the desired impact on participants by entering and reviewing data regularly and monitoring and evaluating the progress of service providers towards required outcomes and working with the evaluator on all aspects of data collection
- Report to supervisor weekly on progress, challenges, lessons learned, and any potential modifications being considered.
- Stay abreast of current family engagement research, best practices and effective utilization of resources.
Other Functions
- Attend school meetings and in-service training as specified by campus administration.
- Provide assistance and support to team members in the implementation of programming as needed
- Maintain professional development requirements to improve skills related to job assignment.
- Build community partnerships to leverage services and support for students and their families.
- Participate as a member of the East Austin Children’s Promise, an initiative supporting both EAPrep and the East Austin Community by planning and coordinating activities in support of the initiative as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Associates Degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology, or other related field.
- 1-2 years’ experience working in communities of high-need and/or in working in out of school time programs
- Experience in providing child development or parenting skills training; working with families to access resources
- Knowledge of local community support resources
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Thinks and acts in ways that respect ethnic, cultural and language diversity
- Ability to work in partnership with others and coordinate a working team in the accomplishment of a project.
Preferred
- Ability to read, write and speak in English/Spanish
- Bachelors’ Degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology, or other related field.
Physical Demands
Must be able to read, write, and communicate both verbally and in written form to express and exchange ideas. While performing the responsibilities of this job, the employee must be able to access all components of work station and other office equipment. Frequent typing, writing, bending and twisting. Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds.
Work Environment
General office environment with moderate noise. This position is mostly sedentary, involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. A busy environment with many unscheduled interruptions. Frequent computer use at workstation for extended periods of time. Public contact position requiring appropriate business apparel. The position will spend more than half of the time in contact with others. The person should expect at least two – four hours of face- to-face contact and whatever support each participant needs via phone or email. |
